OUR TEAM

Our 30 staff members consist of many long time employees with well over 70 years of combined experience in all areas of our practice. In addition to personal secretaries, litigation and conveyancing specialists, we have specialists in estates, corporate, wills, and commercial work.  Some of our lawyers and members of our staff are bilingual, able to assist clients in either English or French.

Colin A. Gagnon

Colin A. Gagnon was born and raised in Peace River. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology at the University of Alberta. In 2003, Colin earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Université de Moncton and joined the firm as an articling student. In 2006, Colin became a partner of the firm.

Colin practices in the area of Real Estate, Corporate, Commercial and Estate. Colin services a number of areas including High Prairie, McLennan, Falher and Peace River.

​

Colin is involved in numerous organizations, especially in the Francophone community as trustee for the Conseil Scolaire du Nord Ouest, and as a past director in the committee for the St. Isidore Carnival, and a

past director in the Association des Juristes d’Expression Français and former treasurer of the Regional ACFA, CREF and CKRP.

​

Colin is married and has two children. He enjoys snowboarding, playing cards and golf.

Boyd E. Langford

Boyd, originally from Saskatoon, enjoyed a business career in the transportation industry spanning more than 20 years, including obtaining his law degree in furtherance of that.  Finally deciding to take the plunge and pursue a legal career he articled with the firm in 2004 and immediately became a partner on his admission to the Law Society in 2005.  Boyd attended the University of Saskatchewan for both his B.A. and LL.B., and relocated to NW Alberta in 2001.  He has 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

 

Boyd practices in the areas of real estate, corporate, commercial and still does a bit of criminal work as well.  He practices out of our full-time High Level office with weekly office hours in LaCrete, areas which the firm has been servicing since the mid-’70s.

Boyd has been active within the community, sitting on Rainbow Lake Town Council for 13 years, including 5 years as Mayor and a number of others as Deputy Mayor, he was elected to the High Level Town Council in 2016, where he is currently the Deputy Mayor. Other Board and community involvement includes sitting on both the Assessment and Development Appeal Boards, various times as a Member, Chair and Deputy Chair of the Regional Economic Development Initiative Northwest Alberta (REDI),  and Board member of the Mackenzie Land Stewardship Committee, High Level Forests Public Advisory Group, High Level Chamber of Commerce and the High Level Oilmen’s Association.  While in Rainbow Lake he also sat on the Northern Alberta Elected Leaders, Mackenzie Municipal Services Agency, served as President of the Rainbow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce, Chaired the Rainbow Lake Victim Services Unit and the Community Advisory Committee.  Boyd enjoys various motorsports, reading, golfing and spending time at the cabin on the Little Smoky River.

Davin D. May

Davin was born and raised in Manning, Alberta. Upon graduation from high school, Davin moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta. In 2009 he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree and in 2012 his law degree. Davin was called to the bar in July 2013 and continued to practice with a firm in Grande Prairie until the summer of 2014.  He started with Mathieu Hryniuk LLP in September 2014 and became a partner on January 1, 2015.

Davin practices in the area of Real Estate, Wills, Corporate, and Commercial. 

​

He is involved in various community organizations.  Currently, Davin is Vice-President of the Board of

Directors of the Condy Meadows Golf Course, Vice-President of the Manning Comets Senior Hockey Team, and is a director of the Manning Petroleum Association. In his spare time, Davin enjoys hockey, golf, snowboarding, wakeboarding and various other outdoor activities.

Braeden Reynolds

Braeden was raised in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, however, he has always had deep ties to the Peace Country.  Growing up, Braeden would live each summer in Manning, Alberta on his family’s farm.  In 2012 Braeden moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta, where earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2016.  In 2019 Braeden earned his law degree from the University of Calgary, following which he immediately moved to the Peace Country and began articling with Mathieu Hryniuk LLP.  In June 2020, Braeden was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta and has recently been promoted to a partner position at Mathieu Hryniuk.

Braeden practices in both Peace River and Slave Lake, primarily in the areas of Real Estate Conveyancing, Business Sales & Acquisitions, Corporate, Commercial, Wills and Estates. 

​

Braeden is seeking to become involved in more community organizations.  Currently, Braeden is a member of the Peace River Chamber of Commerce, the Slave Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Peace River Rotary Club, and the Manning Comets Senior Hockey Team Board of Directors.  In Braeden’s spare time he enjoys being outside working on the farm, hockey, golf, skiing, and spending time on the water.

Mila Walisser

Mila was born and raised in Peace River, Alberta. After graduating high school from École Héritage, she moved to Moncton, New Brunswick, to attend the Université de Moncton. In 2018, she obtained her Bachelor of Science and in 2022, her Juris Doctor. After graduation, Mila returned to her hometown of Peace River and began articling at Mathieu Hryniuk LLP. On July 14, 2023, she was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta and has stayed at Mathieu Hryniuk LLP as an Associate.

 

Mila practices in the areas of Real Estate, Wills, Estates, Corporate and Family Law.  She is also bilingual and offers services in both French and English.

 

Mila is currently Treasurer of the ACFA Régionale Rivière-La-Paix, member of the Peace River Rotaract, member of the Société des Amis de l’École Héritage and the Association des Juristes d’Expression Française de l’Alberta. In her spare time, Mila enjoys volleyball, slow-pitch, and spending time with her friends and family.

Sarah Turcotte

Sarah was born and raised in the Valleyview, Alberta area. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in 2018 from the University of Alberta, Sarah worked at the Métis Nation of Alberta in youth programming. After some time in that role, she decided to pursue law school and graduated with her law degree in the Spring of 2023. Sarah joined Mathieu Hryniuk as an Articling Student in June 2023, and on July 19, 2024, Sarah was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta and became an Associate here at Mathieu Hryniuk LLP.

 

Sarah will work primarily out of our Valleyview office while restoring full services to our Fox Creek office. She practices in the areas of Real Estate, Estates, Wills, and Corporate Law.

 

Sarah enjoys being an active member of the Peace River community and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Community Futures Peace Country. In her free time, Sarah enjoys being outside, baking, and spending time with friends and family.
